The story is old...

The legend even older: King Arthur-the Roman officer under the name of Lucius Artorius Castus - after a succesful campaign to defend Hadrian's Wall - retired to Dalmatia and was buried near Split.

The tomb of the legendary King Arthur is located not too far from Kamena Lodge.

John Matthews, a renowned British historian who is the first to promote the theory that Kind Arthur was a Roman warrior. Lucius Artorius Castus was buried in Podstrana.

A step away from the main coastal road, near the local church, laid a tablet that records the life of the Roman warrior. It survived the centuries. Castus' tombstone was recently replaced by a replica.

A profile sculptured in stone, found by this little chapel in Dalmatia, shows Artorius wearing a helmet with the dragon on its top.

John Matthews thinks that Lucius Artorius Castus, the first King Arthur, spent his last days in Croatia where his grave can be found.

After him there were another two Arthurs who continued his work.

"It was decided to remove the original tombstone due to the threat of possible damages. The original will be researched and analyzed before being stored in the Podstana museum's collection" said the Croatian Ministry of Culture.
